WAIS-IV UK – What’s new?

ften considered the foundation of many cognitive assessments undertaken by clinical psychologists, the Wecshler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) is now in its fourth edition (2010). The new edition has been developed over a number of years for the following reasons: to ensure it is in line with current research; to update the standardisation for ages 16 – 90 years (previous edition – WAIS-III was published in 1997). Two subtests were dropped and three new sub-tests added.

Diagnostic Dementia Assessments

What is it?
The provision of a specialist psychological service to adults and older adults experiencing cognitive deterioration and associated difficulties with psychological functioning. The service includes psychological assessment to inform diagnosis/differential diagnosis questions using detailed clinical interview/history taking and formal psychometric assessment of cognition and emotion. This would also include liaison with medical practitioners and associated professionals and the provision of a report, feedback and opinion/recommendations regarding management, prognosis and review/reassessment.

How will it be delivered?
HPC Registered clinical psychologists with specialist knowledge and expertise in working with older adults, diagnostic assessment and associated conditions will deliver the service. Assessment will be undertaken by appointment at a consulting room in the locality of the client.
