Adult Clinical Neuropsychology

A Neuropsychologist is a Clinical Psychologist with specialist knowledge and expertise in working with people following acquired brain injury, neurological and associated conditions. They can provide assessment, rehabilitation and psychological therapy to assist with problems and changes affecting the person or their family. These problems could relate to changes in how the person processes information, their emotions, personality, adjustment or behaviour. The problems could also relate to relationships, social changes and employment.

What is it?
The provision of specialist psychological assessment and treatment/rehabilitation to adults with acquired brain injury, neurological illness and other neurological conditions. These include:

Mild head injury and post concussive disorders
Traumatic brain injury
Anoxic brain injury
Demyelinating conditions e.g. multiple sclerosis and related diagnoses
Spinal Cord Injury

Depending upon the condition, our service includes formal and informal cognitive assessment, neuro-behavioural assessment and intervention, assessment and delivery of evidence based psychological therapies for individuals and families. It also includes advice and consultation to clinical/support work teams, rehabilitation professionals and case managers. Given the long term nature of many adult neuropsychological difficulties, review, longer term monitoring and reassessments are offered.

How will it be delivered?
HPC Registered clinical psychologists with specialist knowledge and expertise in work with adults with neuropsychological conditions deliver this service across a range of environments including inpatient and community rehabilitation settings and outpatient clinics across the south of England.
